What is SEO?

SEO stands for search engine optimization. This simply is the idea of using specific tactics, strategies, and techniques to rank higher on search engines. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how imperative it is to rank high on search engine results to grasp as many potential buyers as possible.

When you type a search into Google you most likely will click on the first or second result link on the first page that is displayed. It is not very likely you will click to another page say, twenty, and choose a result on that specific page. Google filters the results for each keyword we enter in the search box in order of what pages it detects as important. Obviously, as a Google user we want to have the most content related results on the first page so we do not have to spend hours sifting through results to find a relevant page to what we are searching for.

So SEO is really the concept of implementing a plan to get your website, blog, or article on that first page of results and as high up on the page of results as possible.

Keyword or Is it Keywords?

This was a tricky one for me to understand the difference when I first began my ebook marketing campaign. Let me start by defining keyword. A keyword is the exact phrase that a user types in the search box at a search engine (such as Bing, Google, Msn, etc.).

Let me repeat that so it instills in your mind.

The Exact Phrase.

A keyword is the whole entire phrase itself. For example, let’s say you want to research ebook promotion. So you pull up a Google search page and in the search box you enter “ebook promotion”. These two words are your KEYWORD, (not keywords). “Ebook promotion” is an exact phrase.

OK, so the concept of keywords comes into play when you have a list of keyword phrases that you are searching. So if you wanted to do research on “ebook promotion” and “ebook cover making” you will do two separate searches on Google. One search will be the phrase “ebook promotion” and the second search you do will be “ebook cover making”. When you are talking about doing the entire research in general you would refer to both “ebook promotion” and “ebook cover making” as your keywords.
